Dear
You are being discharged from the Sydney Adventist hospital after receiving the above treatment. Keep this letter with you and you may need to refer to this from time to time.
There are some radiation protection issues: - If possible sleep in a separate bed from your partner for 1 week
- Avoid or limit close contact with young children and pregnant women for 1 week.
- No travel on public transport, including air travel, lasting more than 2 hours, for 1 week
You may develop some adverse or side effects . These include: - Bruising and mild pain in the groin is common and should settle in a few days. Report any lump, especially enlarging pulsing lump to us immediately.
- nausea and pain in the region of the liver after SIRT administration but this usually only lasts a few hours and can be controlled with medication given;
- many patients develop a fever that may last for up to a week; contact us if fever persists and especially there is also chills;
- some patients complain of feeling “unwell” for a few weeks after SIRT. This is due to the radiation effect that may lasts for several weeks;
- a small percentage of patients may develope gastritis or peptic ulcer. Report persistent abdominal pain and stomach symptoms to us or your oncologist.
- the risks to unborn children are unknown. Therefore, if you are a female and still able to have children you should take appropriate contraceptive precautions.
You should make an appointment to see your oncologist in one to two weeks time for on-going cancer care. For procedural related issues, please contact us by asking to speak to:
